Famous local Chiang Mai food & restaurants
1. Nam Prik Num and Cap Moo (Spicy green chili paste with deep fried pork skin)
One of the most popular dishes in Northern Thailand. The taste of Nam Prik Num is hot, salty, and sweet. They eat Nam Prik Num with Cap Moo (deep fried pork skin), steamed, raw vegetables and sticky rice which it’s served on a Khan Toke table. If you want to try Khan Toke Dinner, it has Khum Khantoke and Old Chiang Mai cultural center. These places are a good choice for you to dine out.
2. Khanom Jeen Nam Ngiao
– fresh rice noodles and “Nam Ngiao” – spicy tomato infused broth
Khanom Jeen Nam Ngiao is the original recipe of the northern Thailand. This is a famous dish among the Thai people, it’s local food of northern and the taste is little bit spicy. There are lots popular local restaurants, but we recommend “Kad Nom Sen”, Northern Thai atmosphere. The restaurant set in an old house and old decors of Northern Thailand to take you back to Thai-Lanna tradition.
3. Kao Soy Curry (coconut based curry served over soft egg noodles and topped with crisp egg noodles)
Kao Soy is traditional northern Thai food or Ahan moung nau. It is deep fly egg noodle with various kind of vegetable top with soup which is made of red curry with chicken. This is one of the most famous for Thai visitors. Beside KaoSoy there is also a roll of various northern foods that you can experience. The taste of KaoSoy here is authentic. A Thai visitor can notice by, look around with famous Thai politicians, movie star and singers who take turns to visit and it is guaranteed deliciousness by the local. It’s easy to find KaoSoy in Chiang Mai. For tourist we would like to recommend Kao Soy Nimman, located at Nimmanhaemin Rd. Soi 7. It has more various kinds of KaoSoi than other restaurant and the taste suits everyone.
