Phnom Penh, capital city of Cambodia
Phnom Penh is a capital city of Cambodia. The city is a mixture of Cambodian exotic and Indochinese style with more than 2 million people living. This is a hub of commercial, economic and political of the Country. The city used to be under French colonial and now still deep in history and culture which showing in several cultural and historical sites.
The Royal Palace and National Museum in the central of the city (both open to visitors) was built during the French period. You may notice the old French buildings in colonial style amongst theSoutheast Asian shophouses and classic Khmer pagodas. The National Museum in Phnom Penh is the most significant place where Khmer artifacts in the country are placed, displaying many important Angkorian arts and pieces rarely seen from the past periods. Historical sites from the Khmer Rouge period in Phnom Penh include the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum and the Choeung Ek Memorial. Other historical sites such as the old capital of Oudong and the Angkorian ruins of Phnom Chisor and Phnom Da can be reached within an easy day-trip of Phnom Penh.
Phnom Penh in the present days is undergoing of change and development. The city is slowly increasing high rise buildings and traffic lights. The weather is hot and humid. The most pleasant walking can be done along park-like riverfront, where we can find many cafés and restaurants in this area. We don’t see many tourists which make the city a place to relax, watch the street life and feel the local color here !
